Unpacking and home setup services in Dallas-Fort Worth

We unpack the boxes and build the systems as we go, so the house works in a fraction of the time it would take you on nights and weekends.

What do professional unpacking services include?

Unpacking is not emptying boxes. Anyone can empty a box. Unpacking is deciding where everything lives before it goes down, so the house works on the first night and still works in March.

Do it yourself and it takes nights and weekends for a month, because every item is a decision made while you are tired. Boxes get emptied into whichever cabinet is nearest, and six months later you are organizing the house properly anyway.

We unpack and build the systems in the same pass. Two to four organizers work in a deliberate order, beds and bathrooms and kitchen first, then outward. Boxes and packing material leave as we go rather than stacking in the garage.

The home setup team unpacking your new house

The same insured team that organizes homes does the unpack, which is why systems go in as boxes open rather than being retrofitted in the spring. Ashley Matteson founded Messy Buns Organized Spaces in 2020 and works unpacks herself. If you are relocating from out of state, we can do the whole thing before you arrive and send photographs of each room as it is finished.

What professional unpacking and home setup includes

We unpack in the order that makes a house work rather than the order the boxes came off the truck.

Beds built and made, bathrooms stocked, kitchen functional on night one, because those three decide whether the first week is survivable. Then closets, because getting dressed should not involve a box. Then the pantry against how you actually cook, the garage before it becomes the room everything undecided goes into, and the low-use rooms last. Every space gets its system built as it is filled, so nothing is unpacked twice. Boxes and packing material leave as we go, and in a new build we walk the empty house first so containment is on site before the truck is.

Types of unpacking and new home organization we do

What's included

What an unpacking and home setup project covers, from the first box to the walkthrough that hands you the finished systems.

  • Priority sequencing so the kitchen, bathrooms, and beds work first
  • Every box emptied, broken down, and removed
  • Kitchen and pantry set up for how you actually cook
  • Closets hung and zoned by person and category
  • Organizing systems and containment installed as we unpack
  • All packing paper, boxes, and debris hauled away

When it's time to call for unpacking help

Unpacking stalls in predictable places. If any of these describe the house right now, this is the service.

  • The boxes have been there considerably longer than you meant them to be
  • The kitchen and bathrooms still don't work, so nothing else can start
  • You're living out of boxes while working full time
  • The new house is bigger than the last one and nothing has an obvious home yet
  • You want it finished before school starts, or before family arrive

Book before the movers if you can. Where things land the first time is where they stay, and setting a house up correctly once is far less work than unpacking it and reorganizing it later.

How an unpacking project runs

Five steps, the same every time, whether it is one closet or a whole house.

Unpacking runs in a fixed sequence because the order is what makes a house livable fast. Night one is beds, bathrooms and the kitchen. Everything else follows in the order you actually use it.

A four-bedroom house is usually two to four days with a team of three or four, against several weekends doing it alone. You are needed for decisions on personal items and nothing else.

We find out how many boxes, how many rooms, and how fast you need the house to function.

  2. 02 Walkthrough and plan

We tour the new home, decide what lives where, and identify which spaces need product before we can finish them.

  3. 03 Unpack in priority order

Kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms come first so daily life works immediately, even if the garage is still waiting.

  4. 04 Set up systems

As things come out of boxes they go into a real system with zones and labels, not a temporary pile on a shelf.

  5. 05 Clear out

Boxes broken down, paper bagged, debris gone. You come home to a house, not a recycling problem.

Questions about this service

How long does unpacking a whole house take?

Most full-home unpacks run several days with a team on site. A single kitchen or primary closet is usually a one-day project. We give you an hour estimate after the walkthrough.

Do you need me there the whole time?

No. We need you at the start to set priorities and available by text for the judgment calls. Most clients work while we unpack.

What if I don't have organizing products yet?

That's normal in a new build. We can work with what you own to get you functional, then source and install containment as a second phase once we know how you're actually using the space.

How much does a project cost?

Our rate starts at $160 per hour and it is published on the pricing page rather than quoted privately. You get a written hour range after the walkthrough, before anything is booked. Organizing products are billed separately at cost.

What should I do before you arrive?

Nothing. Do not clean, do not pre-sort, and do not buy bins. Seeing how the space actually works on an ordinary day is the only way to build a system that holds, and a tidied room hides the problem we were called about.

Do you take the donations away?

Yes, the same day, loaded into our vehicles with a receipt back to you. Anything worth selling is set aside separately so you can decide. Bags waiting in a garage for a trip that never happens is how a room refills.

How far in advance should we book?

A couple of weeks for a single space. Four to six weeks for a move, and longer through the summer, which is peak season across Dallas-Fort Worth. If you have a closing date, call with it even if nothing is packed.

Will it still be organized in six months?

That is what the labels and the closing walkthrough are for. Systems are built around how the household already behaves rather than an ideal version of it, and labeled clearly enough that everyone can follow them. If life changes, a Home Refresh visit resets it instead of starting over.
